The accident happened during my Yulong River rafting on my second day in Yangshuo. I will blog about that in my next post but for now, I would like to fast forward a little bit to what we had for dinner after we returned from the river rafting.
The night before, we had a good dinner at Cloud 9 Restaurant in Xi Jie (West Street). During dinner, we saw an interesting restaurant opposite. It was called Mei You Cafe.
As I have mentioned in my last post, mei you means "don't have" in English. So what was it that this cafe did not have? Curious, we decided to go to this restaurant for dinner the next day after our Yulong River rafting.
It was painful for me to walk from Xi Jie Hostel where we stayed to this cafe although it was less than 5 minutes walk. That was because the shorts I was wearing kept touching that injured part of my leg. Well, guess I had to walk slowly and bear with it!
Reaching the restaurant I saw this signboard that reads
Mei you Lousy Food
Mei you Rip-Offs
Mei you Pay FEC!
Mei you Bad Service
Mei you MEI YOU!
So mei you reason to hesitate
COME IN!
Don't know why I forgot to take a photo of that signboard! Anyway, isn't that funny? No wonder it's called Mei You Cafe! I thought it was very creative of the owner to come out with such a name for the cafe!
By the way, FEC means Foreign Exchange Certificates. To know what FEC is, read here.
We ordered the beef dish. Don't remember the actual name though.
Can't see much beef? That's because they were hidden below all those onions and green pepper!
We also tried the pumpkin leaves.
And Mei You Cafe's special soup.
Don't ask me what's inside the soup! I have already forgotten!
The food was just OK to me, and that's about it. I guess if we had tried other items on the menu, we might be able to judge the food better. But it had to be a quick dinner as we had less than an hour to eat before going for the "Impression Liu San Jie" show later.
I was hoping for mei you bill. Fat chance! The damage came to 91.80 yuan (RM46.20) or about 30.60 yuan (RM15.40) per person. I guess most people visit this restaurant because of its unique name. Well, I am glad we had the chance to dine at this famous restaurant on West Street!
